Job summary

Spelman College invites applications for a tenure-track professorship in Writing and/or Rhetorical Studies to begin in Fall 2027. The area of specialization is open, with preference for African American rhetorics, digital storytelling, multimedia journalism, content creation, marketing/PR, and writing/AI.

A PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, Communications, English, African American Studies, or related field must be completed by July 2027.

Qualifications

• PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, Communications, English, African American Studies, or related field completed by July 2027.
• Active research and publishing agenda in Writing and/or Rhetorical Studies.
• Teach rhetoric and writing courses for the department (3-3 load), including first-year writing.
• Support initiatives of the Comprehensive Writing Program as part of institutional service.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an active research and publishing agenda in Writing and/or Rhetorical Studies.
• Teach a range of rhetoric and writing courses for the department (3-3 load), including first-year writing.
• Contribute to the college’s Comprehensive Writing Program and service activities.
