Job summary

Spartanburg Methodist College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Public Speaking and Communication beginning Fall 2027. The 4/4 teaching load will include introductory public speaking courses and an occasional BA Humanities elective. A Ph.D.

in Communication Studies or closely related field is preferred; candidates with a completed Ph.D. or master's in Communication Studies may be considered.

Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in Communication Studies or a closely related field is preferred.
• Candidates who have completed their doctoral coursework and those with a master’s degree in Communication Studies may also be considered for the position.
• The successful candidate will have a clearly articulated teaching philosophy; experience with first-generation, non-traditional, and/or traditionally underserved student populations; and a record of teaching excellence.

Responsibilities

• 4/4 teaching load will primarily include introductory courses in public speaking (7-8 sections per year) with an occasional elective in the BA in Humanities degree program.
• A tenure-track appointment starting Fall 2027 at Spartanburg Methodist College.
