Position Summary
The Physics and Dual Degree Engineering Program ( PDDEP ) at Morehouse College welcomes applications and nominations for an available Tenure-Track Associate Professor or Full Professor position in Engineering. Morehouse’s Physics Department has been ranked as the #1 producer of underrepresented minority males who earn B.S. degreesin physics according to recent AIP reports. Our Dual-Degree Engineering program is equally productive and is among the top producers of minorities who pursue B.S. degrees in engineering. PDDEP seeks outstanding applicants who can add to our existing teaching strengths and help to boost our research in various disciplines.
For this associate or full professor position, we seek individuals who are committed to the College and Division’s missions to increase and broaden the intellectual competency of students and help develop future leaders who are innovators and problems solvers capable of effectively addressing global problems that affect modern society.
Candidates who apply are asked to identify their strengths and experiences in assisting Black men and men of color from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds to accomplish curricular goals. The successful candidate will be expected to support the College’s general education curriculum.
Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and possess prior research experience. Successful candidates will be expected to teach a 3-3 course load consisting of various courses within our introductory physics curriculum and pre-engineering courses. Assigned courses may include: Mechanics, Electricity & Magnetism, Optics & Modern Physics, Engineering Graphics, Engineering Statics, Mechanics of Materials, and Engineering Dynamics. In addition, candidates must actively engage in research, demonstrate the ability to establish a rigorous research program, secure program funding, and regularly provide students with academic advisement. Specific areas of research focus are open. However, individuals with interests in Robotics and a strong background in Computer and Electrical Engineering are highly preferred. The qualified applicant’s research should complement and strengthen existing research areas, which include: (1) Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics; (2) Materials Science Physics; and (3) Nuclear Physics.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in engineering, at least seven years teaching experience, and at least seven years of research or industry experience. Teaching at the undergraduate level and experience in online teaching is desired.
