Job summary

Western Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Native and Indigenous Studies, starting Fall 2027. The candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses, participate in building the new Ethnic Studies department, and engage in community-engaged scholarship with a strong emphasis on equity.

Qualifications

• PhD at time of application in American Indian, Native American, Indigenous Studies, Ethnic Studies, or other relevant field.
• Demonstrated ability to teach introductory and advanced theory and methods courses (undergraduate).
• Demonstrated research record leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals or similar venues.
• Ability to work with diverse students and cultivate equitable, inclusive learning environments.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate Native and Indigenous Studies and Ethnic Studies courses.
• Engage in scholarly activity and service to department, college, and university.
• Foster equitable and inclusive learning environments and community-engaged scholarship.
