The Department of German at UC Berkeley seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of German with a focus on modern literature and/or applied language studies. The appointee will teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including introductory and German-taught courses for the major.

The successful candidate will advise students, supervise research, develop an original program, and contribute to a diverse, inclusive community through research, teaching, and service.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent international degree, or enrolled in such a program at time of application.
• Native or near-native fluency in both English and German.

Responsibilities

• Teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including introductory and German-taught courses for the major.
• Advise undergraduates and graduates, supervise student research, and develop an original research program.
• Contribute to the department's diverse and inclusive community through research, teaching and service.
