Job summary

San José State University’s Department of Design invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Interior Design beginning Fall 2027. This is an academic-year appointment with duties spanning teaching, research, and public engagement.

We seek a designer-educator with professional practice experience and a research focus on emerging technologies such as digital fabrication, computational and parametric design, and AI, who fosters inclusive excellence within a diverse student

Qualifications

Terminal degree completed before the start date.
Evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate level.
Active program of creative practice or research in emerging technologies.
Engagement with contemporary interior design methods and digital tools.
Awareness of diverse student populations and inclusive pedagogy.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate interior design courses including foundation studios and advanced studios.
Develop an active program of research or creative practice focusing on emerging technologies.
Mentor undergraduates in two degree programs and portfolio review.
Contribute to program administration, logistics, and facilities.
Engage in shared governance and service at multiple institutional levels.
Foster inclusive learning environments with diverse student populations.
