The Department of Design at San José State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Interior Design, beginning Fall 2027. This academic-year appointment seeks a designer, educator, and researcher bridging professional practice and academia, teaching undergraduate interior design including foundation studios and advanced electives.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in interior design or related field completed before start date.
• Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching.
• Active program of creative practice or research focused on emerging technologies and fabrication.
• Engagement with contemporary interior design methods across digital and material media.
• Awareness of diverse student populations and inclusive education.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate interior design curriculum including foundation studios, space planning and studios.
• Develop an active program of research/creative practice with emphasis on emerging technologies and digital fabrication.
• Mentor and advise undergraduate students in two interior design degree programs.
• Support the interior design program through administration, logistics, spaces, assets, and facilities.
• Participate in shared governance and service at program/department/university level.
• Contribute to an inclusive learning environment through teaching materials and approaches.
