Job summary

University of Florida in Gainesville invites applications for a full-time, nine-month tenure-accruing Assistant Professor position in the history of the Indian Ocean world, beginning August 16, 2027. The appointee will teach across undergraduate and graduate levels, with emphasis on transregional dynamics and regional histories, and will contribute to the Quest 1 program.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. by August 15, 2027.
• Demonstrated potential of excellence in relevant scholarly research and publication.
• Evidence of ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Ability to contribute to graduate education through mentoring, advising, and service activities.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Asian, African, or Middle East history and world history.
• Mentor graduate students and contribute to the department’s graduate program.
• Chair and serve on departmental and university committees, including cross-departmental work.

Education

Ph.D. in History or closely related field by August 15, 2027.
