Job summary

Boston University’s Department of History of Art & Architecture invites applications for an assistant professor position in the History of Photography, beginning AY 2027–2028. The successful candidate will teach two undergraduate courses per year, including History of Photography, and two upper‑level seminars for undergrad and graduate students.

We seek scholars with a broad knowledge of modern and contemporary photography and a commitment to inclusive pedagogy.

Qualifications

• PhD in hand by start of appointment.
• Teaching experience and publications preferred.
• Research in modern/contemporary photography and visual culture.

Responsibilities

• Teach two undergraduate lecture courses per year, including History of Photography.
• Teach two upper-level seminars for undergraduate and graduate students.
• Advise History of Art & Architecture majors and history of modern/contemporary graduate students.
• Engage with undergraduate track and contribute to its development.
