Job summary

Sweet Briar College invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing, to begin teaching in Fall 2027, with a specialization in creative nonfiction. The English and Creative Writing program employs a studio curriculum with project-based learning and engages working writers who write and read to inform their practice.

The standard teaching load is three courses per semester and includes teaching in our Leadership Core curriculum.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching first-year writing, multi-genre workshops, and nonfiction seminars.
• Commitment to outstanding teaching.
• Ability to work across disciplines and collaborate with colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Teach three courses per semester, including Leadership Core courses.
• Teach at least three sections per year of The Mindful Writer, a first-year writing course.
• Engage in cross-disciplinary teaching and service as needed.
