Job summary

Montclair State University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Engineering to begin August 2027. The successful candidate will help launch a new Engineering concentration, teach introductory physics, advanced labs, and upper-level engineering and physics electives, and mentor undergraduates.

The ideal applicant will hold a PhD in Engineering or physics, show potential for external funding, and contribute to curriculum

Qualifications

• PhD in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Optical, Nuclear) or Physics/Applied Physics or closely related field.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching physics and engineering courses.
• Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications and a competitive research agenda with potential for external funding.

Responsibilities

• Teach introductory physics courses, advanced laboratory courses, and specialized upper-level engineering and physics electives.
• Mentor undergraduate physics majors and advise on career paths in engineering and physics.
• Contribute to curriculum design, departmental growth, and service commitments; develop a robust, self-directed research program.
