Job summary

Montclair State University’s Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Justice Studies seeks an Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice to begin in August 2027. We welcome broad search areas in criminal justice/criminology, with emphasis on teaching required sequence courses such as research methods, criminology, and theories of justice.

The position carries a standard tenure-track teaching load of 12 teaching credit hours per semester, with reassigned time for additional responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate or terminal degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or related field.
• Proven potential in research, scholarship or creative activity.
• Excellence in teaching all students and commitment to service.
• Experience teaching criminology, criminal justice, or sociology to undergraduates.
• Experience with diverse student body and first‑generation college students.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses including research methods, criminology, and theories of justice.
• Mentor students and advise as assigned.
• Develop and update courses aligned with student demand and priorities.
• Engage in scholarly research with reassigned time support.
• Provide service to department, college, university and professional communities.
