Job summary

Furman University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Classics at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, starting August 1, 2027. The department seeks a broadly-trained classicist with expertise in Latin prose, Roman history, social history, historiography, Tacitus, or Cicero.

The successful candidate will teach Greek and Latin, engage with technology in the humanities, mentor undergraduates, and contribute to department and university administration. A Ph.D.

Qualifications

• PhD in Classics or related field by August 1, 2027 is required.
• Broadly-trained classicist with expertise in Latin prose, Roman history, social history, historiography, Tacitus, or Cicero.
• Ability to teach Greek and Latin and to apply technology to humanistic teaching.

Responsibilities

• Teach a wide range of undergraduate courses, including Greek and Latin at all levels.
• Maintain a five-course teaching load over two semesters.
• Mentor undergraduate students on research and collaborate with them.
