Job summary

Emory University’s Oxford College seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of English with a focus on Oral Communication to begin fall 2027.

The successful candidate will teach first-year writing and courses in public speaking, oratory, multimedia communication, and related areas; maintain an active research agenda with peer-reviewed publications; and participate in service to our Writing and Communication Program and General Education Program, expanding oral communication across campus.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in English, Communication Studies, Rhetoric and Communication, or related field by time of appointment.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching oral communication and first-year writing.
• Demonstrated agenda of research and peer-reviewed publication.
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles, collaborating across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in first-year writing and oral communication (public speaking, oratory, multimedia communication) across the undergraduate program.
• Maintain an active research agenda with peer-reviewed publications.
• Contribute to service through the Writing and Communication Program, General Education Program, and broader campus initiatives.
