Job summary

The University of Virginia's College at Wise is seeking Tennis Instructors to work in their Tennis Instructional Program this spring. Instructors will lead various lessons for faculty, staff, students, and community members at Snyder Tennis Center, promoting a lifelong interest in tennis.

Qualified applicants should have experience playing tennis and previous instructional experience. Excellent communication skills and exemplary customer service are essential. Compensation ranges from $15.00 to $20.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Some experience leading group tennis lessons or competitive tennis playing experience is preferred.
• Attendance at regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-service sessions is required.
• A background check will be performed prior to employment.

Job description

The University of Virginia Intramural-Recreational Sports Department is looking for Tennis Instructors to work for our Tennis Instructional Program this spring. Lessons are held at Snyder Tennis Center on UVA's Grounds. Instructors will lead up to six participants during lessons.

Must have excellent communication skills, ability to modify movements for participant safety, and exemplary customer service skills. Applicants should have experience playing tennis; previous instructional experience is preferred.

Duties

• Lead and instruct a variety of tennis lessons for University faculty, staff, students, and members, including youth or adult participants.
• Engage participants in vibrant activities that promote a lifetime interest in tennis.
• Instruct lessons designed for participant enjoyment and safety.
• Effectively communicate with participants.
• Provide exemplary customer service.
• Adhere to and enforce University/Departmental Policies.
• Assist in the execution of Emergency Action Procedures.
• Lessons will mostly occur outdoors at the Snyder Tennis Center.

Qualifications

• Some experience leading group tennis lessons and/or competitive tennis playing experience at the high school or collegiate level.
• Experience in playing tennis; previous instructional experience preferred.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to modify movements for participant safety.
• Exemplary customer service skills.
• Attendance at regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-service sessions.
• Current UVA student.

Compensation

Position Compensation Range: $15.00 - $20.00 hourly.

Physical Demands

Primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
