Pay: $38.15/hour

Reports To: Coordinator of Administrative Services

Primary Purpose

This position supports two instructional components of the Texas Migrant Education Program (MEP). A Bright Beginning (ABB) provides home-based early language and literacy instruction to eligible 3- and 4-year-old children and equips parents or caregivers to reinforce learning at home. Project SMART provides summer mathematics tutoring and enrichment, with supplementary reading and writing support, to help eligible migratory students strengthen academic skills and address learning gaps related to mobility.

• Program Training & Implementation: Complete required ABB and Project SMART training; review program resources; and implement approved curricula and program requirements with fidelity.
• Lesson Planning & Preparation: Prepare individualized lessons, materials, manipulatives, books, assessments, and technology appropriate to each student, family, and instructional setting.
• A Bright Beginning Instruction: Deliver home-based early literacy lessons for eligible 3- and 4-year-old children using sheltered instruction and appropriate accommodations to develop oral language, concepts of print, phonological awareness, comprehension, and alphabet knowledge.
• Home Visits & Scheduling: Coordinate and confirm lesson schedules with families; conduct visits with a parent or responsible adult present; and follow all program and ESC home-visit safety procedures.
• Parent and Caregiver Engagement: Model effective literacy practices, actively involve parents or caregivers in lessons, and provide practical strategies and materials they can use to support learning between visits.
• Project SMART Instruction: Provide individualized summer tutoring and intensive mathematics instruction, with supplementary support in reading and writing, based on students’ academic needs and goals.
• Student Engagement: Use hands-on activities and manipulatives and provide structured opportunities for students to explain their thinking and problem-solving processes.
• Assessment & Instructional Adjustment: Administer required pre- and post-assessments; monitor student understanding and growth; provide constructive feedback; and adjust instruction as needed.
• Documentation & Data Collection: Maintain accurate attendance and service records, lesson documentation, objective anecdotal notes, student work samples or portfolios, assessment data, and parent or student feedback; submit required information by established deadlines.
• Communication & Collaboration: Communicate regularly with program staff regarding student progress, scheduling, materials, family needs, and concerns; participate in required meetings and program evaluation activities.
• Professional Responsibilities: Maintain student and family confidentiality, demonstrate cultural responsiveness, and perform other program-related duties as assigned within the scope of the position and available funding.
• Attend work daily in order to meet the goals and objectives of the ESC.

Mental: Public relations and people skills are always required; work with frequent interruptions; exercise sound judgment; and maintain professional composure and confidentiality under stress.

Physical: Ability to travel to homes and community sites; occasionally, prolonged and irregular hours; ability to load/unload boxes, instructional materials, and equipment; prolonged use of a computer.

Environmental: Work may occur in private homes, community locations, and indoor or outdoor settings. Seasonal, daytime, evening, or irregular hours may be required based on family and program schedules.

Evaluation

Annual performance evaluation will be performed in accordance with the adopted policies of the Education Service Center Region 11. Employment in this temporary position is contingent upon performance, program need, participant enrollment, and funding.
