Job summary

MnDOT District 6 is seeking temporary and emergency snowplow operator positions in Austin, Dresbach, Red Wing, Stewartville and Winona. These roles may be full-time or part-time (2-5 days, M-F, 7:00am - 3:30pm) or on a snow & ice shift, with possible overtime during snow events.

Responsibilities include roadway snow/ice control, winter equipment prep, inspections, and inventory reporting. CDL is required; veterans may qualify for a CDL waiver.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or B CDL with no Airbrake Restriction from any state.
• Must obtain a Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months.
• Veterans may be eligible for a waiver of CDL based on military experience. Please contact your county Veteran Service Officer to obtain a copy of your VMET DD2586.

Job description

MnDOT District 6 may fill up to 32 temporary and/or emergency snowplow operator positions in various district truck stations throughout the district. These positions will be filled in in the following locations:

• Austin
• Dresbach
• Red Wing
• Stewartville
• Winona

Some examples of work are listed below and not limited to the following:

During a snow & ice season a snowplow shift is typically an A shift (12:00am-12:00pm) or B shift (12:00pm-12:00am); an employee may be asked to work more than an 8-hour shift depending on the length of the snow event. Temporary employees may work full-time or part-time (2-5 days, M-F, 7:00am - 3:30pm) or they work a snow & ice shift; snow & ice shifts can occur on regularly scheduled workdays and scheduled days off, including Saturday and Sunday. Emergency employees are intermittent fill in drivers; they work a snow & ice shift, filling in for regular operators who are not available. Hours of work may include overtime, various shifts depending on emergency situations and will include working nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour of being called.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Airbrake Restriction or equivalent from another state and obtain a valid Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of initial placement into the position.
