Job summary

Valley Fine Foods is seeking a detail-oriented Temporary Senior Accountant to support our Accounting and Finance team during an employee's maternity leave. This position will help maintain day-to-day accounting operations, support month-end close, and provide financial and cost accounting analysis across multiple entities and manufacturing locations.

The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Working knowledge of GAAP.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines with multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and prepaid expense schedules.
• Complete bank, balance sheet, fixed asset, inventory, and loan reconciliations.
• Support month-end and year-end close, including financial statement preparation and consolidation.
• Prepare financial reports and variance analyses, researching discrepancies and explaining key drivers.
• Maintain fixed asset records and review CIP balances.
• Support audit requests, accounting schedules, and business property tax reporting.
• Review and maintain bills of materials and support inventory costing accuracy.
• Analyze manufacturing costs, purchase variances, inventory adjustments, and WIP variances.
• Coordinate with Operations, Warehouse, and Shipping on inventory movements, cycle counts, and physical inventories.
• Assist with standard cost updates, budgeting, forecasting, and special projects.
• Maintain accounting controls and provide backup support to other accounting team members.

About the Role

Valley Fine Foods is seeking a detail-oriented Temporary Senior Accountant to support our Accounting and Finance team during an employee's maternity leave. This position will help maintain day-to-day accounting operations, support month-end close, and provide financial and cost accounting analysis across multiple entities and manufacturing locations.

The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. This is a temporary assignment; the anticipated end date may change based on business and leave coverage needs.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and prepaid expense schedules.

Complete bank, balance sheet, fixed asset, inventory, and loan account reconciliations.

Support month-end and year-end close, including financial statement preparation and consolidation.

Prepare financial reports and variance analyses, researching discrepancies and explaining key drivers.

Maintain fixed asset records and review construction-in-progress balances for timely reclassification.

Support audit requests, accounting schedules, and business property tax reporting.

Review and maintain bills of materials and support inventory costing accuracy.

Analyze manufacturing costs, purchase variances, inventory adjustments, and work-in-process variances.

Coordinate with Operations, Warehouse, and Shipping and Receiving teams on inventory movements, cycle counts, and physical inventories.

Assist with standard cost updates, budgeting, forecasting, and special projects.

Maintain accounting controls and provide backup support to other accounting team members as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

At least 1-2 years of relevant accounting experience.

Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities.

Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with employees, management, and external auditors.

Preferred Qualifications

Manufacturing or food manufacturing accounting experience.

Experience with cost accounting, inventory reconciliation, and bills of materials.

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Business Central.

Experience supporting accounting for multiple entities or locations.

This position primarily works in an office setting, with occasional visits to our Benicia and Yuba City manufacturing facilities. Plant visits require compliance with food safety procedures and use of required protective equipment.
