The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a temporary full-time Veterinary Technician to support animal care and research activities. You will assist with clinical care, procedures, and general husbandry to ensure the health and welfare of research animals in compliance with institutional and regulatory guidelines.

Pay is $18.00 per hour, with potential to transition to full-time depending on funding.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a related field OR HS diploma with 2 years of related experience.
• Veterinary Technician certification (RVT/CVT/LVT) preferred or eligible to obtain.
• Prior experience with laboratory animals or veterinary settings preferred.
• Knowledge of animal handling, restraint, and basic clinical procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsabilités

• Provide daily care, monitor, and health assessments of research animals.
• Assist veterinarians and research staff with clinical procedures, treatments, and surgeries.
• Administer medications and collect biological samples as directed.
• Monitor animals for signs of illness, distress, or abnormal behavior and report findings promptly.
• Maintain accurate records related to animal health, treatments, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with IACUC, USDA, and institutional policies and guidelines.
• Support facility operations, including sanitation, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
• Assist with training of research personnel on proper animal handling and care techniques.

Formation

Associate's degree or equivalent

HS diploma or GED + 2 years related experience
