Job summary

New York Western Probation and Pretrial Services in Rochester, NY, is seeking a Probation Technician for a temporary appointment not to exceed one year and one day. Responsibilities include screening calls, data collection, and maintaining files.

A high school diploma is required, with preference for a two-year college degree and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows. Background investigation, FBI fingerprint check, and suitability determination are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualification Requirements: high school diploma or equivalent for Classification Level 22, Step 1; can be placed in higher steps with one or more years of general experience.
• Background Investigation, Drug Screening and Medical Standards: final candidate must undergo a local background investigation, FBI fingerprint check and suitability determination.
• Competitive Factors: two-year college degree preferred; knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows is desirable.
• Substitutions: education above high school level may substitute for required general experience; excess specialized experience may substitute for general experience.
• General Experience: progressively responsible clerical or office work indicating ability to acquire required knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Screens telephone calls and visitors; answers routine questions; provides assistance and refers to appropriate person.
• Assists officers with routine data information collection for reports; processes forms and documents; requests information from courts and law enforcement.
• Maintains electronic and physical files through data entry, imaging and filing
• Assists with weekly court calendars, forwarding payments to other districts, receptionist duties, and backup assistance
• Assists officers with reviewing offender files and data entry for risk assessment and chronological entries
