Job description

Position Overview

Temporary Pool- Grounds Worker (Facilities Operations) assisting with upkeep of campus grounds, ensuring beautification for students and staff. The role involves grass cutting, edging, trimming, planting, pruning, weeding, snow and ice removal, cleaning debris, digging ditches, installing fences and signage, setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for special events, operating small‑engine maintenance tools and machinery, and practicing safe operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with upkeep of the grounds to provide beautification to the entire campus.
• Perform grounds maintenance (cutting grass, edging and trimming lawns, planting and pruning shrubs and trees, weeding shrub beds, snow and ice removal, etc.); clean campus of debris, dig ditches, install fences and sign posts; perform manual tasks such as moving and hauling furniture and other materials including chemicals and gases.
• Set up and break down furniture, stages, materials and equipment for special events and activities.
• Operate most small‑engine grounds maintenance tools and machinery.
• Practice safe operating procedures with equipment, around students, vehicles and facilities; attend safety meetings, wear personal protective clothing.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of tools, materials and methods used in grounds maintenance work; mechanical aptitude to make adjustments and minor repairs to grounds equipment.
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to perform work involving physical strain for an extended period of time; safety awareness and good communication skills.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Required Certification / Equipment

Employee is required to have safety shoes.

Work Hours

Work week based on need and weather conditions. May include early morning, evenings, and weekends.
