Montgomery College, Rockville campus, seeks candidates for temporary Performing Arts Technicians in the Performing Arts Center. This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt position.

For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Temporary Performing Arts Technicians help ensure the technical operations of all equipment is properly maintained, meeting applicable regulations and providing lighting, sound, SFX design, and rigging support for theatre

Qualifications

• HS Diploma/GED and related work experience.
• Working knowledge of stagecraft operations, lighting & sound design and reinforcement.
• Familiarity with installation of new equipment, and maintenance of lighting/sound/video systems.

Responsibilities

• Ensure venue is in good working condition including lights, sound, video, and rigging.
• Build various scenic elements on the venue stage.
• Plan time management and production schedules.
• Perform inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs on technical equipment.
• Train or direct contracted staff, vendors, visiting designers, faculty, and students.
• Coordinate backstage with front of house and volunteers or user groups.
• Other duties as assigned.

Montgomery College, Rockville campus, seeks candidates for temporary Performing Arts Technicians in the Performing Arts Center. This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt position. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Work to ensure the venue is in good working condition including lights, sound, video, and rigging.
• Build various scenic elements on the venue stage.
• Plan time management and production schedules.
• Perform inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs on all aspects of technical equipment.
• Train and/or direct contracted staff, vendors, visiting designers, faculty, and students in proper use of the arena’s equipment.
• Coordinate efforts backstage with front of house staff and volunteers or user groups.
• Other duties as assigned.

Temporary Performing Arts Technicians help ensure the technical operations of all equipment is properly maintained, ensuring national, state, and county regulations and codes are met and followed, as well as provide lighting design, sound design, SFX design, lighting console operation and programming, audio engineering, video engineering, rigging, stage management, production management, and technical direction for theatre productions. Temps work in the capacity as Stage Hands, House Managers, PA and hospitality Coordinators, and fill in as needed in the event College Staff are unable to work performances due to being on Annual or Sick leave. This is a temporary position without benefits funded through June 30, 2027. Employment continuation beyond this period is contingent upon need and funding.

Required Qualifications:

• HS Diploma/GED.
• Previous related work experience.
• Working knowledge of stagecraft operations, lighting & sound design and reinforcement, installation and integration of new equipment, maintenance of lighting instruments, lighting consoles, sound equipment, sound consoles, video projection and virtual broadcasting.
• Working knowledge of set design, carpentry, rigging, chain motors, all power and hand tools, hydraulic lifts, electrical systems, theatrical computer systems, software programs, installation of software for theatrical equipment, fly systems, and maintain working relationships between theatrical production recording and television operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A combination of training and skills in lighting, sound, carpentry, welding, set construction, and rigging.
• Professional experience and/or educational coursework in lighting design and reinforcement, sound design and reinforcement, and rigging.

Hiring Range: $25.00 per hour
