Position Summary

The Division of Physical Therapy in the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at the University of New Mexico has a temporary part-time faculty position available with responsibilities in two courses: PT613 Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy I, and PT655 Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy II.

These courses are scheduled as follows:

PT613 – Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy I

Course details: Introductory cardiopulmonary-focused course, 5 hours per week.
Course dates: March 23, 2026 – May 8, 2026.

• Monday: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
• Wednesday: 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM

PT655 – Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy II

Course details: Advanced cardiopulmonary course, 6 hours per week.
Course dates: March 23, 2026 – May 8, 2026.

• Tuesday: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
• Thursday: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

The scheduling requirements for this position are listed above; however, some flexibility may be required to accommodate testing schedules and observed university closures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• 2 or more years experience as a physical therapist;
• Current, active New Mexico Physical Therapy license;
• Master’s in Physical Therapy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1 or more years experience working in a dedicated cardiopulmonary environment (e.g., cardiac rehab, cardiothoracic surgery unit, pulmonary unit);
• 1 or more years experience working in an intensive care unit;
• Advanced degree (e.g., DPT, (t)DPT, PhD);
• Served as the primary clinical instructor to at least 1 full-time student;
• Evidence of continuing education in cardiopulmonary assessment (e.g., American Board of Physical Therapy Specialty Certification, continuing education courses attended, Combined Section Meeting Programs, New Mexico Physical Therapy Association Programs);
• A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
