Job summary

The Pittsburgh Parking Authority is seeking candidates for a temporary summer maintenance position. Responsibilities include driving, performing various physical tasks, and ensuring the maintenance of Authority facilities and surface lots throughout the city. Position responsible for the daily completion of assigned maintenance projects, duties and responsibilities, in all Authority facilities and surface lots throughout the City of Pittsburgh. This is a temporary summer position that will end in August of the current calendar year.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :

  • Participate in various projects or tasks requiring physical labor.
  • Drive company issued vehicle (truck or van) to assigned areas.
  • Salting, planting, removal, trimming of plants, shrubs, trees, asphalt patching, mixing of cement, installing of signs and changing light bulbs and related items.
  • Experience on operating vehicle(s) equipped with snowplow and salt hopper apparatuses preferred but not a requirement.
  • Perform general maintenance projects as assigned (Paint, sweep, perform snow removal (if applicable)
  • Perform activities, functions, and other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
  • Ability to work in accordance with established Authority and departmental safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions and specifications.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to lift objects ranging from 10 to 80 pounds repeatedly.
  • Able to repeatedly climb, carry, balance, kneel, squat, crawl, twist, stretch, bend at the waist, reach, grasp, push and pull.
  • Ability to walk several miles daily both long and short distances in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of appropriate materials, tools and equipment of assigned activity such as, but not limited to; hand, electrical, and gas-powered hand tools, drills, hammers, saws, wrenches, screwdrivers, brooms, shovels and light-duty jackhammers.
  • Ability to safely use tools and equipment appropriately.
  • Must have mechanical skills.
  • Moderate knowledge of the geography of Pittsburgh.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with the public and other Authority employees.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

CITY OF PITTSBURGH RESIDENCY:

Each employee of the Authority is required, as a condition of employment, to be a bona fide resident of Allegheny County. If the employee is not a resident of Allegheny County at the time of hire, they will be required to establish and maintain residency within Allegheny County within six (6) months after their hire date. While employees and applicants are not required to be residents of the City of Pittsburgh, the Authority will give a hiring preference to employees or applicants who reside within the City of Pittsburgh in choosing between two equal candidates.

BACKGROUND CHECK – DRUG TESTING

Must successfully complete a background/motor vehicle check. A pre-hire drug test screening may be conducted.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATES and LICENSES:

Must possess and maintain a current and valid Class C (or Class 1) Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator’s License throughout employment.

MEDICAL EXAMINATION:

A medical examination may be required prior to appointment.
