Position Overview

This position is responsible for the daily completion of assigned maintenance projects across all Authority facilities and surface lots throughout Pittsburgh. This is a temporary summer position ending in August.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Participate in projects requiring physical labor.
  • Drive company-issued vehicles to designated areas.
  • Perform tasks such as salting, planting, removal, trimming of plants, shrubs, trees, asphalt patching, cement mixing, installing signs, and changing light bulbs.
  • Experience with snowplow and salt hopper equipment is preferred but not required.
  • Conduct general maintenance activities including painting, sweeping, and snow removal.
  • Follow safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Lift objects ranging from 10 to 80 pounds repeatedly.
  • Climb, carry, balance, kneel, squat, crawl, twist, stretch, bend, reach, grasp, push, and pull as needed.
  • Walk several miles daily in various weather conditions.
  • Use tools and equipment such as hand tools, drills, saws, wrenches, screwdrivers, brooms, shovels, and jackhammers safely.
  • Possess mechanical skills.
  • Have moderate knowledge of Pittsburgh's geography.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Exercise initiative, sound judgment, and discretion.
  • Maintain effective relationships with the public and colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Residency Requirement

Employees must be bona fide residents of Allegheny County. Those not residing in the county at hire must establish residency within six months. Preference is given to residents of Pittsburgh in candidate selection.

Background Check and Drug Testing

Successful completion of a background/motor vehicle check required. Pre-employment drug testing may be conducted.

Certificates and Licenses

Must hold and maintain a valid Class C (or Class 1) Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Medical Examination

A medical exam may be required prior to employment.
