Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Department of Entomology, seeks a Temporary Laboratory/Research Technician to assist with mosquito biology and physiology studies. You will work under Dr. Taracena, Dr.

Buchon and senior staff in a hands-on lab setting in Ithaca or Geneva. Responsibilities include routine to moderately complex technical tasks, colony maintenance, basic molecular assays, dissections, buffer/preparation work, and data management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with manuscript preparation.

Job description

This position is for a Temporary Technician in the Department of Entomology, who will assist with mosquito biology and physiology research. The technician will be expected to perform routine research under the supervision of Dr. Mabel Taracena, Dr. Nicolas Buchon and senior lab staff. A wide variety of routine to moderately complex technical laboratory support is needed. Laboratory techniques to be employed will include but are not limited to providing standard care for mosquito colony maintenance, supporting work on basic molecular assays, mosquito tissue dissections, and preparing standard bioassays, washing and autoclaving glassware, and other techniques and procedures as necessary. The position involves cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment, maintaining overall laboratory hygiene, and preparing laboratory waste for disposal per protocols. The technician will also be expected to prepare non-standard buffers and reagents and conduct basic molecular biology assays and sample preparations. Assisting in database development, maintaining standard laboratory records, and other responsible data management functions are also expected, as well as analyzing data using straightforward statistical methods and software. The technician will also have the opportunity to assist with the preparation of manuscripts.
