Working Title: Temporary Journeyman Carpenter

Position Summary:

This temporary position performs journey-level commercial carpentry construction, maintenance, and repair on the interior and exterior areas of campus buildings. The position is part of the In-House Construction crew in Facilities and Property Management (FPM) at the downtown Portland campus.

Minimum Qualifications from Classification:

- Experience as a skilled carpenter, including form building, rough framing, finishing, layout, care and use of tools and woodworking machinery, blueprint reading, and application of safety standards and codes; OR

- Completion of an apprenticeship (four years) under a skilled carpenter which included the above experience.

Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position:

  • 2 years experience working at a journeyman level carpenter.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Willing and able to wear a half mask respirator.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience working at a journeyman carpenter level, in commercial construction or in a school or institutional environment.
  • Experience working both independently and directing non-skilled labor.
  • Various equipment operation certification or licenses.
  • HAZMAT training.
  • Creates an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences.
  • Functions and communicates effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Seeks opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings with a willingness to change for continual improvement.

Contributes to a culture of environmental stewardship, practices resource conservation, and actively works toward achieving long-term sustainability goals.

Work Days/Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, schedule to be determined.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement: Salary range in between $23.45 – $26.97 per hour. This temporary position is not eligible for benefits.
