Job Description

We are hiring summer temporary maintenance workers! This is a great opportunity for those seeking extra income or testing out a new career path before committing long-term. Our team performs vital work to ensure public safety and maintains a friendly, supportive environment. Join us and see for yourself!

The starting pay rate is $19.502 per hour. Those with a CDL may be eligible for promotion to the Worker Senior level at $20.998 per hour, at the discretion of the District.

Locations hiring include Albion, Bloomfield, Clarkson, Columbus, Crofton, Hartington, Humphrey, Laurel, Lyons, Neligh, Newcastle, Niobrara, Norfolk, Plainview, South Sioux City, Wayne, and West Point. Positions are temporary, until November 30, 2025. Hours may vary based on weather conditions, possibly exceeding or falling below 40 hours per week.

Job Duties
  • Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance
  • Perform tree trimming
  • Respond to highway emergencies
  • Safely move, drag, lift, load, and unload equipment, materials, supplies, and hazardous objects within weight restrictions
  • Spread and tamp surfacing materials
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license
  • For Senior roles: Must have a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
Additional Requirements
  • May require overnight travel
  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential
  • Must be reachable outside scheduled hours for highway emergencies
Physical and Work Environment

Ability to move, drag, lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally, and over 90 pounds with assistance. Ability to climb, bend, stoop, work outdoors in extreme temperatures, and around high-speed traffic.
