COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE (CPW) is seeking a Fish Health Laboratory Technician for a 9‑month temporary position in Colorado. The role involves conducting microbiological assays (bacteria, viruses, parasites) and assisting with data collection, scheduling, and QA tasks in the on-site lab.

The candidate will work a 40‑hour week (Mon–Thu, 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.), with possible evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel is sporadic; some lifting and outdoor work are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology (or related field) required.
  • Willing and able to work 40 hours per week.
  • Schedule: Mon–Thu, 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.
  • Must be able to lift 50–100 pounds repeatedly and work outdoors when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct microbiological assays for fish health (bacteriology, virology, parasitology, PCR).
  • Collect, receive, label, and analyze samples related to fish health inspections.
  • Maintain lab records and equipment logs daily.
  • Prepare reagents and media for routine laboratory use.
  • Calibrate and sterilize equipment; maintain clean, organized lab areas.
