Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks a Temporary Staff Paleontologist to support projects in the Rocky Mountain Plains region, based in Sheridan, WY. The role focuses on construction monitoring, surveys, fossil identification and documentation across western sites, with travel and long field days.

The candidate should have 2+ years of paleontological consulting; 4+ years preferred, with Field Monitor/Field Agent status preferred. Remote fieldwork and safety are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Paleontology, Geology, Biology, or related field with paleontological coursework.
• Minimum of two years of professional paleontological consulting experience.
• Experience with paleontological mitigation and construction monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Act as a paleontology professional on project teams as a Field Monitor under supervision.
• Prepare accurate logs for field surveys, monitoring, and fossil collection.
• Conduct fieldwork including monitoring and surveys, ensuring data quality and QA/QC.
• Communicate regularly with leads, clients, and field crews to ensure high-quality services.
• Adhere to SWCA safety programs and maintain professional ethics.
