Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Temporary Staff Paleontologist to support projects in our Rocky Mountain Plains region, based out of the Denver or Sheridan office. This role involves field monitoring, surveys, fossil identification, data collection, and coordination with project teams in demanding environments.

Ideal candidates will have Wyoming permit experience or eligibility, a relevant degree, and 2+ years of Wyoming consulting experience or 4+ years overall.

Qualifications

• Wyoming permit requirements for Field Monitor/Field Agent.
• Bachelor's degree in Paleontology, Geology, Biology, or related field.
• 2+ years of professional paleontological consulting experience in Wyoming, or 4+ years elsewhere.
• Experience with paleontological mitigation and construction monitoring.
• Knowledge of Wyoming and Rocky Mountain Plains geology, paleontology.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate 4WD vehicles.
• Ability to travel extensively and work long hours in outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Act as a paleontology professional on project teams as Field Monitor.
• Prepare and complete accurate logs for field surveys and fossil collection.
• Conduct fieldwork including monitoring and surveys and data QA/QC.
• Communicate regularly with leads, project managers, field crews, clients to ensure high-quality services.
• Comply with safety programs and promote safety.
• Build collaborative relationships within SWCA’s paleontology program.
• Uphold high standards of ethics and resolve challenges.
