Job summary

Henrico County Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support classroom teachers and students at Shady Grove Elementary School in Glen Allen, VA. This temporary, hourly position is limited to no more than 29 hours per week and will work under the guidance of a classroom teacher.

Responsibilities include assisting with academics, grading, classroom management, field trips, and student supervision, with possible medical/hygiene support.

Qualifications

• Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Sixty semester hours of college credit or passing scores on the ParaPro Assessment preferred.
• Paraprofessional Autism Certification is required within 60 days of hire. Training is provided by HCPS at no cost.

Responsibilities

• Assists students with academic subjects and documents progress.
• Assists teachers with classroom duties, grading, planning, and tests.
• Supports classroom management and behavior modification.
• Assists with field trips, community-based instruction, and activities.
• May assist with toileting, hygiene, seizures or medical needs as required.
• Functions in assisting mobility needs and loading/unloading bus; operates adaptive equipment.
• Collects data on student performance and progress.
• Assists with instructional materials creation and organization.
• Reports student concerns promptly to the teacher.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
