Temporary Anesthesia Technician - Evening Shift - Includes Weekend Hours

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, an Anesthesia Technician is a valuable team member who assists the Anesthesiology Team by ensuring all supplies and equipment are available, clean, sterile, and functioning properly. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care, excellent communication skills, and adhere to high standards of excellence and all relevant regulatory standards.

Responsibilities of an Anesthesia Technician may include but are not limited to:
  • Supporting procedures by preparing and maintaining patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during, and after anesthesia.
  • Setting up, calibrating, operating, and maintaining monitoring and anesthesia equipment in advance of procedures.
  • Preparing airway equipment and suction setups.
  • Setting up blood warmers, rapid infusers, and transducers as needed.
  • Operating cell saver machines for intraoperative blood salvage under clinical direction. Applying noninvasive monitors such as pulse oximetry, EKG, blood pressure cuffs, BIS monitors, and nerve stimulators.
  • Managing warming blanket apparatus to regulate patient temperature.
  • Assisting in off-site locations with transport, room setup, and cleanup.
  • Participating in room turnover to maintain efficiency and safety.
  • Assisting in patient transport and positioning for anesthesia, including airway management and difficult intubations.
  • Inspecting and performing basic maintenance on all department equipment.
  • Ensuring and maintaining the sterility and cleanliness of equipment according to infection control policies.
  • Managing departmental supplies, monitoring for outdated items, and maintaining par levels.
  • Participating in CQI efforts to improve patient care and equipment management.
  • Providing instruction to staff and students on anesthesia equipment and procedures.

This is a temporary position that may end at any time.

Minimum Qualifications

Anesthesia Technician I: Minimum of 2 years full-time healthcare experience in a clinical setting and at least three professional references from supervisors or clinical professors.

Anesthesia Technician II: Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences with a concentration in Anesthesia Technology from an ASATT-accredited program, completion of an internship, and at least three professional references.

Compensation

The salary range is $49,261 - $65,612 per year, based on experience. Some positions may include additional pay such as location pay or shift differentials. Benefits include leave, health plans, and a pension.
