TEMPORARY AIDE - Animal Care (Division of Racing Events)

This position is located in the Division of Racing at Arapahoe Park, Aurora, CO. The racing season generally runs from June to October 2025 and involves ensuring animal safety, laboratory testing, and developing rules related to medication and animal welfare.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Collect and package urine samples from horses, maintaining chain of custody.
  2. Observe horse behavior to determine the best sampling method safely and efficiently.
  3. Manage entry and exit of horses through the test barn, ensuring compliance with procedures.
  4. Guide and educate test barn attendees on proper procedures.
  5. Administer and witness administration of Furosemide under veterinarian supervision, and collect used syringes.
  6. Update horse identification and health records across databases and interviews.
  7. Maintain testing records, prepare documentation, and ensure cleanliness of testing areas.
  8. Assist with setup of testing equipment and supplies.
  9. Attend daily racing staff meetings and assist with inquiries and hearings as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of customer service or office support experience demonstrating decision-making and multitasking skills.
  • OR, no formal experience required.

Applicants must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and be on-call for emergencies. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required.

Preferred Skills
  • Decision-making aligned with Colorado rules and policies.
  • Strong communication, animal affinity, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
