Job summary

City of Alexandria, VA is seeking a Temporary Recreation Leader I for Out of School Time programs. The role guides youth ages 5–17 in arts, sports, drama, music, STEAM and field trips, with shifts 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. during the school year and up to 30 hours weekly in summer.

You will support safe, inclusive, engaging activities, maintain site setups, complete reports, and communicate with OSTP families. Strong teamwork, reliability and customer service are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and one year of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Strong writing and verbal skills.
• Interests in working with youth ages 5–17 years old and ability to lead recreational activities including arts, sports, games, drama, STEAM, and field trips.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and facilitate sports, recreation and arts activities for afterschool programs and summer camps.
• Follow Recreation Services Workplace Expectations and safety guidelines.
• Ensure proper supervision of all program participants at all times.
• Create a positive, nurturing, inclusive and safe program environment.
• Communicate professionally with OSTP families and participate in staff meetings and trainings.
• Complete reports and required paperwork in line with department policies.
