Job summary

Rhode Island School of Design seeks a temporary Operations Assistant to support summer program operations for the Continuing Education adult programs. The role coordinates facilities and programmatic needs for instructors, teaching assistants, and students on campus.

The successful candidate will work with a diverse group of students and staff, travel when needed, and participate in debriefs after programs. RISD emphasizes equity, inclusion, and climate justice in its community.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with databases and SIS systems (25Live, Workday, Destiny Solutions).
  • Able to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative team.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse population of students, instructors, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Operations staff with room readiness checks before programs.
  • Place informational signage and assist with wayfinding.
  • Staff major program launches and check-in days for students and families.
  • Support pre-program setup and logistical errands.
  • Staff exhibitions and closing events, artwork handling.
  • Monitor Slack channels and communicate with supervisor/CE staff.
  • Serve as TA substitute when needed and continue TA duties if not replaced.
  • Provide coverage for other temporary staff as needed.
  • Support office needs such as print requests and space research.
  • Post-program cleanup and follow-up tasks.
  • Provide feedback in debrief meetings.

Job Summary

RISD Continuing Education seeks a temporary Operations Assistant to support summer program operations for its adult programs supporting students 18+. This role supports the operations team coordinating facilities and programmatic needs for instructors, teaching assistants and students. This position liaises with campus partners, instructors, and CE staff to support students during academic class time.The successful candidate will thrive in a campus environment that is committed to advancing the principles of social equity and inclusion, environmental and climate justice, and equal access to resources and opportunities.


Essential Functions


  • Before programAssist Operations staff with room checks to verify readiness for program start.

  • Assist with placing informational and wayfinding signage.

  • Attend and staff any major program launch or check-in days to assist students and their families upon arrival.

  • Support pre-program setup needs and logistical errandsDuring programRun errands for the Operations and/or Programming staff as requested.

  • Staff things like exhibitions and closing events such as artwork dropoff and pickup as assigned.

  • Monitor communication channels in Slack and keep in communication with supervisor and/or CE staff.

  • In cases of TA absence, serve as a substitute until a replacement arrives.

  • Continue to serve as a TA in the event that an absent TA is not able to be replaced.

  • Provide additional coverage for other temp staff when needed.

  • Support ops office needs such as instructor print requests and space research

  • After programAssist Operations staff with room checks, clearing out left behind artwork and materials and checking whether facilities needs to service a room.

  • Assist with other post-program cleanup and follow-up tasks.

  • Provide feedback in debrief meetings.


Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience

Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.Experience working with databases and proficiency with the technology required, with preference given to experience with 25Live, Workday, Destiny Solutions or an equivalent SIS.Must be innovative and solution-oriented, able to work independently and as a part of a highly collaborative team.Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse population of students, instructors, and staff.Creativity, flexibility, and broad cultural experiences and personal warmth are essential.The ability to travel to off-site locations.Must be available to work 5 weeks and attend all mandatory training.Must be First Aid certified (training available).
