Job summary

University of Minnesota Extension seeks a Temporary Interim 4-H Program Associate to support county 4-H Youth Development programs. The role oversees daily operations, program coordination, and volunteer management across counties, with hours ranging 20–40 per week and a pay rate of $20–$25 per hour.

Based in county Extension offices, the position requires strong English communication, client service, and the ability to work days, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 20 years old by the start date.
• One year of full-time youth-work experience (this can be volunteer or related work).
• Experience with word processing, e-mail, and internet browsers.
• Experience working with clientele face-to-face and on the phone.
• Proficient in oral and written English communication skills.
• Willingness to learn the philosophy and guidelines of UMN Extension and 4-H.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate county 4-H activities with statewide outcomes.
• Collaborate with local boards to execute program plans.
• Manage multiple participation models (clubs, after-school, site-based).
• Oversee public recognition and county fairs, awards.
• Uphold Extension policies and safety standards.
• Identify, recruit, train, and recognize adult volunteers.
• Serve as primary resource for volunteer inquiries and tools.
• Promote 4-H via social media, email, and direct mail.
• Collect enrollment and participation records for state reporting.
• Maintain fiscal accountability with operations staff and manage risk.
