Job summary

Novelis is seeking a Maintenance Planner & Scheduler for its Warren plant in northeast Ohio to coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance using CMMS, ensuring safety and reliability with minimal disruption. This role reports to the EMRA Leader, requiring 2–4 years of manufacturing experience, supervisory background, SAP and CMMS familiarity, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe working environment and address unsafe conditions or at-risk behaviors, prioritizing safety in work planning.
  • Review maintenance work requests for scope, priority, dates, coding, and detail.
  • Plan work steps, labor and skill requirements, estimated hours, materials, tools, and safety inspections.
  • Coordinate requisitions, ordering, kitting, and availability of parts and materials with Storeroom.
  • Estimate direct labor, material, and total costs for work orders and compare with actual usage.
  • Develop and publish maintenance schedules matching available workforce capacity and preventive deadlines.
  • Manage maintenance backlog and ready-to-execute work for unscheduled outages.
  • Coordinate planned outage windows with Operations and support outage execution.
  • Develop standard job plans and preventive maintenance procedures for recurring work.
  • Communicate critical or abnormal conditions to leadership and notify requesters when deadlines cannot be met.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, Storeroom, contractors, and vendors to improve reliability.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Maintenance Planner & Scheduler is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities at the Warren plant to support safe, efficient execution with minimal operational disruption. This role manages preventive and corrective maintenance work through the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), coordinates labor, materials, tools, and equipment availability, and partners with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, the Storeroom, contractors, and vendors to improve plant reliability. The position reports to the EMRA Leader and has no direct reports. After-hours, weekend, and holiday support is required for urgent maintenance needs.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and support a safe working environment; identify and address unsafe conditions or at-risk behaviors, support investigations and Behavior-Based Safety observations, and give safety needs top priority in work planning.
  • Receive, review, and screen maintenance work requests for clear scope, appropriate priority, realistic completion dates, accurate coding, and sufficient detail.
  • Plan work by defining job steps, labor and skill requirements, estimated hours, materials, special tools, equipment, safety inspections, and standby support.
  • Coordinate requisitions, ordering, kitting, and availability of parts and materials, and verify critical inventory with the Storeroom.
  • Estimate direct labor, material, and total costs for work orders and compare estimates with actual labor and material usage to improve planning accuracy.
  • Develop and publish maintenance schedules that match available workforce capacity, account for carryover work, and support preventive maintenance deadlines.
  • Manage and prioritize the maintenance backlog, including work awaiting engineering, materials, or downtime, and maintain ready-to-execute work for unscheduled equipment shutdowns.
  • Coordinate planned outage work and negotiate downtime windows with Operations; finalize balanced schedules and work with the Associate EMRA Leader during outage execution.
  • Develop standard job plans and recommend, research, and write preventive maintenance procedures for recurring work.
  • Communicate critical or abnormal conditions to the EMRA Leader and Associate EMRA Leader; notify requesters when work cannot be completed within required lead times.
  • Work closely with maintenance personnel, engineers, team leaders, the Storeroom, contractors, and vendors to support equipment reliability, repairs, and timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Follow up on completed schedules and work orders, support system improvements and Continuous Improvement teams, provide Storeroom support as needed, and perform other assigned duties.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Trade school certificate or equivalent experience.
  • 2 to 4 years of continuous experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office Suite)

Location Profile

Novelis’ Warren facility is located in northeast Ohio— approximately an hour drive from Cleveland and an hour and a half from Pittsburgh. The facility built in 1965 applies coating to rolled aluminum beverage can sheet. The sheet is used to make aluminum beverage can ends (lids) for global soft drink beer and sparkling water brands. Warren showcases several high-end cultural venues including the Warren Community Amphitheater and Packard Music Hall. The 95+ employee Warren team is active in the community promoting recycling supporting STEM education and offering a helping hand to local community shelters.
