Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) is seeking a Part-Time Temporary Substitute Child Development Specialist for the Child Development Center. You will provide care for children enrolled in the program and support daily activities.

The role requires an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, strong communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse groups. The position offers hourly compensation of $18.50 and varied schedules for fall and spring semesters.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with varied groups of students, children, and staff.
• Ability to meet state licensing requirements, including: DCI check, Child Abuse Registry check, medical exam with update every three years.
• Strong communication skills.
• Capability to lift or carry up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a healthy and safe learning environment for children in accordance with licensing, accreditation and other standards of best practice.
• Develop positive relationships with children.
• Facilitate a positive, inclusive classroom climate for varied groups of children.
• Observe, plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate, evidence‑based daily learning opportunities to meet the needs of children ages birth to 5 years.
• Practice ongoing assessment of children’s development and learning using a variety of assessment tools as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
