Job summary

Spartanburg Community College is hiring a Campus Security Officer to patrol campus properties, enforce safety policies, and respond to emergencies. The role requires vigilance in monitoring for unauthorized activity and ensuring the safety of students, staff, and facilities.

The officer will conduct safety checks, assist with traffic control, and enforce campus regulations in accordance with state laws within the college’s jurisdiction.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age by the date of hire.
• Valid South Carolina driver's license or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Routinely patrol campus and other properties on foot, in vehicles, or using approved transport to monitor for unauthorized activity.
• Secure campus facilities by locking/unlocking per directives; perform safety checks and patrol all buildings and grounds.
• Observe and report hazards to appropriate personnel and departments.
• Monitor weather conditions on campus and report dangerous or unusual activity for timely response.
• Respond to emergencies and disasters on campus.
• Enforce safety and security policies and applicable laws on Spartanburg Community College property and in the jurisdiction.
• Assist with traffic control, direct traffic, post signage, and set/remove cones and barricades as needed.
• Conduct arrests and issue trespasses following departmental policies and SLED regulations.
• Investigate complaints and policy violations within the jurisdiction, including interviewing witnesses and documenting evidence.

Job Responsibilities

• Routinely patrol campus and other properties under jurisdiction on foot, in motor vehicles, or in other authorized transportation. Watch for unauthorized persons, suspicious or criminal activities, disturbances, and violations through regular patrols and monitoring of camera systems
• -Secure (lock and unlock) campus facilities per directives. Conduct security and safety checks and patrols of all buildings and campus grounds
• -Observe and report safety hazards to appropriate personnel and departments.
• -Observe weather conditions on and around campus property and report dangerous or unusual weather-related activity to management for timely response and communication.
• -Respond to all emergencies and disasters on campus.
• -Enforce department and college policies and regulations as related to safety and security, including applicable state and federal laws on Spartanburg Community College property and other areas within jurisdiction.
• -Enforce traffic and parking regulations within Spartanburg Community College jurisdiction. Assist campus and local law enforcement with all traffic control needs, including directing traffic, posting signage, setting and removal of traffic cones and barricades, and more.
• -Conduct arrests and issue trespasses according to departmental policies and SLED regulations.
• -Investigate complaints and violations of college policy and South Carolina law within Spartanburg Community College's jurisdiction and patrol area. This may include viewing camera footage, talking with witnesses, capturing and handling evidence, and writing incident reports.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age by the date of hire. Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license and the ability to operate all equipment in the campus safety vehicle. Criminal background check required for hire. Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of experience in college security, contractual security, police, corrections, fire safety, EMS, and military.
