Job summary

American Battery Solutions in Lake Orion, MI seeks a Temporary Prototype Quality Engineer to ensure prototype parts meet customer expectations and support build readiness.

You will lead root-cause analysis, have line-stop authority, and drive APQP deliverables with cross-functional teams to enable smooth prototype-to-production transitions.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5+ years’ experience in quality management (TS 16949/ISO) with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and Control Plans preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering field.
• 5+ years managing a QMS including TS16949/ISO.
• 4+ years driving continuous quality improvement in manufacturing.
• Experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and production launches.
• Experience conducting internal, supplier, and process audits.

Responsibilities

• Support manufacturability and cost objectives as part of APQP quality deliverables.
• Collaborate with Engineering and supply base to create BOMs, workflow processes, and NPI work instructions.
• Conduct failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective action activities.
• Lead prototype-to-production quality transitions, including pre-launch trials and knowledge transfer.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs and defects.
• Partner with internal teams and suppliers to resolve non-conformances and meet production schedules.
• Utilize measurement tools to evaluate process stability and verify improvements.
• Read, understand, and verify BOMs, drawings, tolerances, and technical docs.
• Manage Changes & Deviations (product, process, supplier, documentation).
• Develop and maintain FMEAs and Control Plans throughout product lifecycle.
