Job summary

Amity Foundation is seeking compassionate individuals to join our prison-based ISUDT teams as Registered/Certified Substance Abuse Counselor I, delivering rehabilitative programming to inmates and supporting their transition back to the community.

You will lead group and individual sessions, utilize motivational interviewing and CBT, and maintain accurate, confidential records according to Amity standards. A DHCS-approved registration and AOD certification within five years are required.

Qualifications

• Registration with a DHCS-approved organization and AOD certification within five years.
• Experience delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming in ISUDT or similar setting.
• Proficiency in motivational interviewing, CBT, and group facilitation.
• Ability to maintain accurate, confidential participant records and reports.

Responsibilities

• Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
• Lead and participate in scheduled program curricula using motivational interviewing and CBT.
• Develop and implement treatment/action plans with participants and educate about support networks.
• Review progress, maintain records, and prepare concise reports aligned with Amity standards.
• Collaborate with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS and institution staff, and participate in trainings.

About the Position:

As a Registered/Certified Substance Abuse Counselor I,you will support the community by delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDT).

• Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
• Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum. Leads and participates in face-to-face group and individual meetings utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and other therapeutic processes.
• Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectation for participation and completion.
• Works directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate participants about supportive networks as they return to the community.
• Review treatment plans, evaluate and record treatment progress, records visible changes in appearance, behavior and demeanor of program participants.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential participant records. Evaluates and documents the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
• Completes all delivery documentation requirements. Summarizes participants’ background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.
• Prepares accurate, concise, informative reports, records and plans that are consistent with Amity standards, and complies with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
• Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plans and prepares transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
• Works collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS and institution staff. Supports and collaborates co-faculty, including but not limited to Supervisors, Directors and RegionalDirectors.
• Participate in monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Counselor I: Must be registered with an organization approved by DHCS and obtain their AOD certification within five (5) years of registration date.
