Job summary

Amity Foundation is seeking a Registered/Certified Substance Abuse Counselor I to provide rehabilitative programming services in prison facilities. You will deliver group and individual treatment sessions, develop treatment plans, and maintain participant records. Candidates need a current AOD certification and at least 6 months experience in the field. Compensation ranges from $24.15 to $28.35 per hour. About the Position

As a Registered/Certified Substance Abuse Counselor I, you will support the community by delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDT).

What You Will Do
  • Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
  • Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum. Lead and participate in face-to-face group and individual meetings utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic processes.
  • Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectations for participation and completion.
  • Work directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate participants about supportive networks as they return to the community.
  • Review treatment plans, evaluate and record treatment progress, and record visible changes in appearance, behavior, and demeanor of program participants.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records. Evaluate and document the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
  • Complete all delivery documentation requirements. Summarize participants’ background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.
  • Prepare accurate, concise, informative reports, records, and plans that are consistent with Amity standards, and comply with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
  • Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plan, and prepare transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
  • Work collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS, and institution staff. Support and collaborate with co-faculty, including but not limited to Supervisors, Directors, and Regional Directors.
  • Participate in monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring
  • Minimum 6 months of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
  • Current AOD Certification recognized by the DHCS or registration with BBS or an AOD certifying body, depending on education level.
  • Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participants.
  • Protect and maintain program participants’ health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
