Job Summary

The University of Michigan-Flint invites applications for the position of Teller Intermediate. We seek experienced candidates with demonstrated cash handling skills who are customer service oriented. This role involves cashiering functions and using customer service skills in person, by telephone, and email.

The teller will report to the Accounts Receivable Manager and collaborate with the Cashier, Student Accounts team, and other departments. Support to team members will also be part of the role.

Responsibilities
  1. Interact daily with faculty, staff, students, parents, and the public.
  2. Respond to inquiries regarding student account questions from students, parents, and university departments via in person, phone, or email.
  3. Accept and process student payments in cash, check, or money orders. Handle returned payments.
  4. Process departmental deposits via cash receipt tickets.
  5. Handle HSIP requests, petty cash, or travel advances.
  6. Perform daily reconciliations, prepare reports, and create Cash Receipt tickets as needed.
  7. Become proficient with the Banner software system, understanding student accounts, payment processes, troubleshooting, and testing in Banner.
  8. Explain U of M policies and procedures related to student accounts.
  9. Place and remove holds or other codes on student accounts, add comments in Banner.
  10. Prepare itemized statements for students and collection agencies.
  11. Assist with student refunds and learn to lead this process.
  12. Support the student fee appeal process, completing checklists prior to submission.
  13. Order supplies as needed.
  14. Scan and review documents for electronic storage.
  15. Represent the department at various functions.
  16. Support co-workers with ongoing projects.
  17. Adhere to FERPA laws.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of customer service and monetary transaction experience.
  • Experience in counting and balancing daily monetary transactions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Google suite products.
