Overview
The Teller I conducts transactions with speed, accuracy, and efficiency while meeting or exceeding service quality standards. The Teller I safeguards bank assets assigned to them and contributes to the growth of the bank by promoting and cross‑selling bank products and services.
Responsibilities
- Receive, pay out cash, and handle negotiable items, loan payments, deposits, withdrawals, and transfers.
- Set up, close, and balance the teller station.
- Record sales of monetary instruments.
- Assist customers with inquiries in person or by telephone.
- Maintain a neat and well‑stocked teller area.
- Cross‑sell bank products and services.
- Follow limits to protect customer accounts and maintain bank safety and soundness.
- Adhere to bank policies and procedures.
- Lift coin bags up to 50 lbs and assist with balancing the vault, ATM, night drop, and coin machine as assigned.
- Assist with proper scanning of bank documents and proof work; exercise judgment when applying holds and making check‑cash decisions.
- Cross‑train in opening basic new consumer accounts.
- Adhere to the work schedule and remain flexible for alternative locations or market assignment.
- Maintain a positive, friendly, and professional attitude and appearance.
- Remain alert and work in a safe manner.
- Complete required BSA/AML training and other compliance training annually.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and at least four years of education or equivalent.
- 0 to 6 months of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with basic computer skills: 10‑key, spreadsheet, and word processing/typing.
- Strong communication skills to interact in person and small group settings.
- Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and ability to perform these with money.
- Critical thinking: use common sense for simple multi‑step instructions; handle standardized situations with limited variables.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, and perform repeated tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to work independently and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Adherence to all required training and compliance guidelines.
Working Conditions
Noise level is moderate. Tasks involve intermittent standing, walking, pushing, carrying, and lifting. The employee must remain alert and ensure a safe work environment. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs and frequent use of hands, arms, and vision for close tasks.
