Caltech is seeking a Night Telescope Operator in Pasadena, CA. Under supervision, you will ensure the safe operation of the 200-inch Hale telescope and support astronomers during night sessions. The role involves monitoring instruments and environmental conditions, while also assisting with problem resolution and safety improvements.
Basic qualifications include a high school education with relevant work experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Experience with telescopes and programming is preferred.

Job Summary
Under the direction of the night operations supervisor, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the 200‑inch Hale telescope and Palomar robotic telescopes. The position is responsible for operating the adaptive optics instrument, supporting the operation of all other scientific instruments, and assisting the astronomers during the nightly observing sessions as needed.
