Job Description :

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Monitors and operates the switchboard, including answering and directing incoming calls, placing outgoing calls, overhead paging, and emergency response communication.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Answers and directs all telephone calls and overhead paging inquiries for the efficient and timely operation of hospital communications. Triages and prioritizes calls based on urgency, and routes calls accordingly. (85%)
2. Immediately responds to alarms, security calls, and medical emergencies. Pages all designated responders to emergencies. Reports any issues or misuse of the alarm system to the supervisor. Logs emergency response information as appropriate. May reprogram the fire alarm system after activation. (10%)
3. Maintains and cleans all switchboard equipment, identifying and resolving malfunctions following defined procedures. (5%)
4. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

• Excellent telephone skills and interpersonal communication skills required.

Preferred

• Training as a Telephone Operator, Receptionist, or Dispatcher preferred.
• Experience with a PC-based telephone operator console preferred.
