GENERAL OVERVIEW

Monitors and operates the switchboard including answering and directing incoming calls, placing outgoing calls, overhead paging, and emergency response communication.

Responsibilities

1. Answers and directs all telephone calls and overhead paging inquiries for the efficient and timely operation of hospital communications. Triages and prioritizes calls based on urgency, and routes calls accordingly. (85%)
2. Immediately responds to alarms, security calls, and medical emergencies. Pages designated responders. Reports issues with alarm systems to supervisors. Logs emergency responses. May reprogram fire alarm systems after activation. (10%)
3. Maintains and cleans switchboard equipment, resolving malfunctions as needed. (5%)
4. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Minimum

• Excellent telephone and interpersonal communication skills required.

Preferred

• Training as a Telephone Operator, Receptionist, or Dispatcher preferred.
• Experience with PC-based telephone consoles preferred.
