Job summary

Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida, Inc. is seeking a full-time night-shift Switchboard/Call Center Operator to handle hospital communications. The role includes 11PM-7AM Tuesday to Saturday schedule, with per diem weekend coverage and on-call hours as needed.

Responsibilities focus on prompt, professional call handling, paging staff, and coordinating with multiple departments while maintaining patient privacy and hospital codes. Bilingual Spanish is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Education: HS diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Contact Center or office experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Answers all incoming calls, including page phone and switchboard, in a timely manner.
  • Handles each call professionally and courteously.
  • Follow customer service standards for phone communications as set by department management.
  • Answers the Switchboard promptly and avoids queue delays.
  • Pages personnel per approved schedule; notifies staff as required by procedures.
  • Responds to hospital codes and alerts pertinent staff as needed.
  • Monitors alarm indicators and enunciators for locations and notifies personnel.
  • Responds immediately to Emergency / 123 lines and notifies staff.
  • Records long-distance calls as required and follows privacy policies.

Position Summary

Full Time Nights - Tuesday to Saturday 11PM-7AM. Per Diem Saturday/Sunday 7AM-3:30PM and Monday to Wednesday On Call, 16-40 Hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Answers all incoming calls, including page phone and switchboard, in a timely manner, placing them on hold as necessary.
  • Handles each call in a professional manner and treats callers with respect and courtesy.
  • Follows customer service standards for phone communications as set by department management based on Customer Service training session and materials.
  • Answers the Switchboard in a timely manner and doesn’t let calls wait in queue.
  • Requests the assistance of other departments with a call rather than blind transferring calls to unaware recipients.
  • Pages all personnel based upon approved schedule as needed.
  • Understands and interprets all hospital codes and identifies communication action for each code.
  • Responds to hospital codes and notifies all pertinent hospital personnel as required by department procedures.
  • Monitors alarm indicators and enunciators for hospital locations and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Immediately answers Emergency / 123 lines and responds immediately by notifying the appropriate staff.
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency to all emergency calls.
  • Assists staff and patients with long‑distance calls as authorized in established department procedures.
  • Records the required information on the long‑distance log sheet.
  • Follows medical center's policy regarding releasing any patient information.
