Job summary

Long Beach Memorial Medical Center is seeking a Part-time Unit Secretary/Monitor Tech for the Observation Care - Adult unit in Long Beach, CA. The role focuses on clerical support, patient data accuracy, and telemetry monitoring under RN supervision.

The position requires 1+ year experience as a Unit Secretary or Ward Clerk, proficiency in medical terminology, and BCLS certification. EKG Monitor Technician or EKG/Dysrhythmia training is preferred. Bachelor’s degree is a plus.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of recent experience as a Unit Secretary or Ward Clerk in a comparable size facility.
• Proficient in Medical Terminology.
• Must be knowledgeable in cardiac rhythm identification.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
• Successful completion of EKG Monitor Technician course or EKG/Dysrhythmia class provided by MHS required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides clerical support for the unit and maintains accurate data.
• Files orders, reports and patient information into charts in a timely manner; ensures accuracy of input.
• Maintains a safe and cost-effective work environment.
• Orders supplies for the unit and ensures charts are prepared for daily needs; restocks crash carts.
• Transcribes physician orders and verifies chart completeness.
• Answers calls with professional telephone etiquette for physicians, patients, and departments.
• Assembles charts for new admissions and prepares charts for transfers.
• Monitors telemetry units and reports rhythm changes to RN staff immediately.
